This update is exceptionally large. It includes all the regional GEX products. It will been seen and enjoyed all over the world. We have merged years of GEP3D development into GEX, a time consuming process due to the shader engine differences between the products, and, added new textures sets to both products. GEX now incorporates all the changes we have introduced to GEP3D since its release and includes many new tile sets both products equally share.
Due to the scale of the changes and additions, using patches to update the products in this round of upgrades is not possible. 
All of the GEX region products you own must be uninstalled and the new product versions installed in their place. 

The instructions below should walk you right through updating or installing the product for the first time. Updating is easy. Please do take the time to review.

CURRENT GEX MUTI-REGION USERS (More than one region)
If you use more than one GEX region product and updates are available, it is critical that you update ALL of your GEX region products at the same time. Please BE SURE to verify all of your installed GEX regions are fully updated together. Failure to do so can remove updates from a new region product or a recently updated region. 

PLEASE NOTE:

FOR GEX NORTH AMERICA - IF YOU USE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING GEX REGIONS TO UPGRADE GEX NA FOR FREE: 

GEX AFME

THAT PROCESS REMAINS THE SAME. DO NOT UNINSTALL GEX NA FROM YOUR SYSTEM, ONLY UNINSTALL THE OTHER GEX REGIONS YOU OWN AND REPLACE THEM. ONCE ONE OF THE ABOVE IS INSTALLED GEX NA WILL AUTOMATICALLY UPGRADE TO v2.20

OLDER GEX PRODUCTS PURCHASED BEFORE JANUARY 2012 
Any GEX region product purchased before January 2012 incorporates an older interface and far older product revisions. From January 2012 forward all GEX regions were significantly upgraded and since then have undergone several major update revisions. Using or attempting to use older GEX region interfaces and products with the new versions will result in errors and very poor quality visual render results because the newer updates are designed to work with each region together in concert. 

If you still have or use older GEX region products, please update them to the most recent versions to assure the best experience. Most GEX regions come with free updates/upgrades and you are still entitled to those upgrades even if your product is pre-January 2012. You can request assistance in the forum for such older products to get them updated.

CURRENT GEX DVD USERS  
Flight1 has phased out the use and sale of products on DVD media, it is no longer possible to update to the latest versions of GEX using that system with a DVD base installation. Most GEX regions come with free updates/upgrades and you are entitled to those upgrades, however, if you have never converted your DVD to download license in the past, in order to upgrade you will need to convert your DVD license to DOWNLOAD and can then obtain all current updates. 

You can use the automated Flight1 DVD to DOWNLOAD conversion system for this. You must have a Flight1 account or create one to convert your DVD to download.

GEX REGION DOWNLOAD PRODUCTS PURCHASED FROM A STORE OTHER THAN FLIGHT1 
If you purchased one or more GEX region product from a 3rd party store such as Aerosoft, FS Pilot Shop, SimMarket, etc,..  You are entitled to the same product updates Flight1 customers can receive, however, when there is a full update available and the entire region must be replaced, then you must go to the web-store where you purchased your GEX region in order to obtain a new full download of the product at no cost.  
PLEASE NOTE:
The online stores MAY NOT HAVE THE MOST RECENT VERSIONS POSTED as this was just released so please check the version numbers before downloading from other online stores. I will update this announcement when I know for sure the online retailers have updated their files.

As I outlined, If you purchased one or more GEX region product from a 3rd party store such as Aerosoft, FS Pilot Shop, SimMarket, etc, you must obtain the updated products from the same store you purchased the product(s) from.  Please use this thread to outline the upgrade process past obtaining the product from the original purchase location.

These are very large downloads. You may wish to consider the use of a download manager. If download speeds are slow it is probably because the links are experiencing heavy traffic however if you have issues getting the files such as broken links please post in the forums and let us know.

 1. Please make sure your AV/Malware scanners are disabled so they will not interfere with download of the product.

You know what GEX regions you currently own. You can open and check the GEX interface if you need a reminder. 

2. Create a folder for each GEX region you own on a local drive (not network drive) and name it accordingly for each product, example: GEX NA, GEX EU, GEX AFME, etc. The folder name doesn't matter as long as you know which is which. You will be placing the files you download for each region into these folders.

3. Below is a list of all the updated products with direct links to them. Download the 2 files for your GEX region and place them in the folder you created (#2 above) for that region.
 NOTE: For those who use HASH CHECK to verify files are not corrupt you can download the 2 hash check files that are listed below the individual product links. Each product has a separate hash check zip with the files in it that will verify your download is NOT corrupt.

ONCE YOU HAVE ALL YOUR GEX REGIONS DOWNLOADED... 

You are almost ready for the unwrap/install process!
However all of your currently installed GEX regions must be uninstalled FIRST.

If you have never used GEX before and/or do not have any GEX region products installed, you may skip the next section and go directly to: UNWRAP AND INSTALL GEX REGION PRODUCTS

 Uninstalling Ground Environment X (all regions)
NOTE: If you do not keep FSX/GEX backups and in the past opted to disable the feature in the GEX interface, you may skip to STEP 3 below.

If you are not uninstalling GEX NA and updating it using other regions, you may skip to STEP 3 below.

Only use steps 1 and 2 below if you completely remove all of your GEX region products for replacement.

PREPARE YOUR CURRENT BACKUP

1. Open the GEX interface by right click of the GEX shortcut, select: Run As Administrator. At the top, the interface will display the PATH to your current backup. In the example below mine is located on F:\GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP

NOTE: The backup directory is always named: GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP. The interface will not accept any other name for the backup directory so do not rename this folder for any reason. 

If you own all 6 GEX regions and keep a backup the size of the backup folder will be approximately 5.6GB 
IF your backup is currently located here: C:\GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP you can skip the next step and go directly to STEP 3

2. Now that you know the path to your backup and it is not on the root of C:\, CLOSE the GEX Interface. BROWSE to the location shown in the interface. Right click the GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP folder and select 'CUT', then browse to the C:\ drive and click 'PASTE' allow the operation to complete. 

When complete you will have C:\GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP this can be changed and moved again after the upgraded products are installed. It is only temporary. 

 UNINSTALL YOUR GEX REGIONS FROM WINDOWS
3. In Windows, with the GEX interface closed browse to: Control Panel > Programs and Features. Scroll down the list to locate *all of your Ground Environment X <REGION> products and select to uninstall them one-by-one. Allow the process to complete for each. PLEASE READ THE NOTE BELOW;

FOR GEX NORTH AMERICA - IF YOU USE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING GEX REGIONS TO UPGRADE GEX NA FOR FREE: 

GEX AFME
GEX ASA

IF GEX NORTH AMERICA IS THE ONLY GEX REGION YOU OWN, OR, YOU USE GEX NA AND GEX EUROPE TOGETHER WITH NO OTHER GEX REGION PRODUCTS, YOU MUST UNINSTALL GEX NA AND THEN INSTALL v2.20 TO UPDATE CORRECTLY. 

You are now ready to install the new region releases previously downloaded and placed in the folders

UNWRAP AND INSTALL GEX REGION PRODUCTS
PRODUCT INSTALLATION INFORMATION:GEX does not install any files into FSX or FSX Steam Edition until the user runs the interface and instructs the interface to enable the files in FSX. You can install the GEX regions on your system to any location you wish. 
The product does not require installation to the FSX install directory where it takes up space for no reason. You can also elect to install the regions into Windows in different local disk locations if disk space is a issue. The interface locates the regions through the registry.

1. Please make sure your AV/Malware scanners are disabled so they will not interfere with install of the product.

2. With both region files in the folder you created, right click the EXE file: (usually has small red airplane icon) and select "Run As Administrator". When the wrapper starts, if you are reinstalling/upgrading simply use the "Click Here to Reinstall" button and use your Flight1 key/password to decompress. If this is a first time purchase, follow the directions in the wrapper to purchase the product and begin the decompression process. 

3. A license will be generated specific to your hardware. This license is required in order to run the actual installer as well as the product interface. Once finished close the wrapper/installer. 

NOTE: If you elect to not automatically run the installer after the wrapper finishes decompressing the product, make sure when you do run the installer to right click the GEX<region>.exe file and select "Run As Administrator"

4. Once the wrapper decompression is complete, Run the installer. Should you wish to change the default install path during the installation process of any region you may do so. There is no install path requirement. You can elect to use the default path, or, browse the installer to the location of your choice. Once complete, close the installer

NOTE:
Do not open the GEX interface until all of your GEX regions are installed. Doing so will not cause any problems however it can make the install process take longer. 

5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above for ALL of your GEX region products. 

BEFORE STARTING THE INTERFACE FOR THE FIRST TIME:

 IMPORTANT:
It can be possible very aggressive AV/Malware scanners may read the GEX interface exe a false positive when the GEX interface is opened. To completely avoid this possibility enter the settings for the AV/Malware scanners and select to EXCLUDE the directory shown below: 

C:\Users\,YOUR WINDOWS USER NAME>\AppData\Roaming\Flight One Software\GEX  <---- this directory and all files in it

FIRST RUN OF THE GEX INTERFACE
START THE GEX INTERFACE:
1. Start the GEX interface by right click of the GEX shortcut the installer placed on the desktop or in the START menu, select: Run As Administrator. 
NOTE: IF you have BOTH FSX Box and FSX Steam Edition installed on your system the interface will display a box that will request which version of FSX support you wish to run. It doesn't matter which version you start with.
Follow the prompts for first run of the product. 
Note that if you kept a previous backup the interface may run through the backup process but will not overwrite any file already in the backup directory and will only add new files to it.
The interface will usually locate the simulator automatically through the registry. If it fails it will request a browse to the FSX install directory. 

2. Once all the initial setup is complete you are ready to enable your GEX region products in FSX. Starting with the product you own highest in the list in the interface, click the bullet next to the region and then click the ENABLE button. Follow the prompt and allow the process to complete.
When complete the region will display "ENABELD IN FSX"
If you have a detected Ultimate Terrain X (UTX) product installed the interface will then allow access to the Ultimate Terrain feature for the region. If not the feature will be available. Repeat the step above to select and ENABLE any UTX region features under the GEX region. 

3. Go to the next GEX region in the list you own and repeat step #2 above.

Once all of your GEX regions and installed UTX features display 'ENABLED IN FSX" in the interface. that's it! Ground Environment X is ready in the simulator. 

NOTE: IF you have BOTH FSX Box and FSX Steam Edition installed on your system you will need to CLOSE the interface, open it again and select the other version of FSX and then repeat steps 2 and 3 above till 
the product is installed into the 2nd simulator.

 Remember there is no need to have the interface running after the ENABLE process is complete. The files will remain in place until you run the interface again and disable GEX which restores the backup to the sim.

The GEX Manual (HELP BUTTON) will define most issues and solutions to them should any issues arise. The list above covers just about everything in the manual...or you are welcome to use this forum to request support. 
You can use the automated 'Check For Updates" button in the interface to periodically see if updates have been released. Please remember in order for the update system to work your GEX regions must be 'ENABLED IN FSX" first.

You are almost ready for the unwrap/install process! However all of your currently installed GEX regions must be uninstalled FIRST. If you have never used GEX before and/or do not have any GEX region products installed, you may skip the next section and go directly to: *UNWRAP AND INSTALL GEX REGION PRODUCTS* Uninstalling Ground Environment X (all regions) NOTE: If you do not keep FSX/GEX backups and in the past opted to disable the feature in the GEX interface, you may skip to STEP 3 below. If you are not uninstalling GEX NA and updating it using other regions, you may skip to STEP 3 below. Only use steps 1 and 2 below if you completely remove all of your GEX region products for replacement. PREPARE YOUR CURRENT BACKUP 1. Open the GEX interface by right click of the GEX shortcut, select: Run As Administrator. At the top, the interface will display the PATH to your current backup. In the example below mine is located on F:\GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP NOTE: The backup directory is always named: GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP. The interface will not accept any other name for the backup directory so do not rename this folder for any reason. If you own all 6 GEX regions and keep a backup the size of the backup folder will be approximately 5.6GB IF your backup is currently located here: *C:\GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP* you can skip the next step and go directly to STEP 3 2. Now that you know the path to your backup and it is not on the root of C:\, CLOSE the GEX Interface. BROWSE to the location shown in the interface. Right click the GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP folder and select 'CUT', then browse to the C:\ drive and click 'PASTE' allow the operation to complete. When complete you will have C:\GEX_REGIONS_BACKUP this can be changed and moved again after the upgraded products are installed. It is only temporary. UNINSTALL YOUR GEX REGIONS FROM WINDOWS 3. In Windows, with the GEX interface closed browse to: Control Panel > Programs and Features. Scroll down the list to locate *all of your Ground Environment X <REGION> products and select to uninstall them one-by-one. Allow the process to complete for each. PLEASE READ THE NOTE BELOW; *PLEASE NOTE: FOR GEX NORTH AMERICA - IF YOU USE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING GEX REGIONS TO UPGRADE GEX NA FOR FREE: GEX AFME GEX ASA GEX APT GEX AA THAT PROCESS REMAINS THE SAME. DO NOT UNINSTALL GEX NA FROM YOUR SYSTEM, ONLY UNINSTALL THE OTHER GEX REGIONS YOU OWN AND REPLACE THEM ALL. ONCE ONE OF THE ABOVE IS INSTALLED GEX NA WILL AUTOMATICALLY UPGRADE TO v2.20 IF GEX NORTH AMERICA IS THE ONLY GEX REGION YOU OWN, OR, YOU USE GEX NA AND GEX EUROPE TOGETHER WITH NO OTHER GEX REGION PRODUCTS, YOU MUST UNINSTALL GEX NA AND THEN INSTALL v2.20 TO UPDATE CORRECTLY. You are now ready to install the new region releases previously downloaded and placed in the folders ---------------------------------------------------------- UNWRAP AND INSTALL GEX REGION PRODUCTS PRODUCT INSTALLATION INFORMATION: GEX does not install any files into FSX or FSX Steam Edition until the user runs the interface and instructs the interface to enable the files in FSX. You can install the GEX regions on your system to any location you wish. The product does not require installation to the FSX install directory where it takes up space for no reason. You can also elect to install the regions into Windows in different local disk locations if disk space is a issue. The interface locates the regions through the registry. 1. Please *make sure your AV/Malware scanners are disabled* so they will not interfere with install of the product. 2. With both region files in the folder you created, right click the EXE file: (usually has small red airplane icon) and select "Run As Administrator". When the wrapper starts, if you are reinstalling/upgrading simply use the "Click Here to Reinstall" button and use your Flight1 key/password to decompress. If this is a first time purchase, follow the directions in the wrapper to purchase the product and begin the decompression process. 3. A license will be generated specific to your hardware. This license is required in order to run the actual installer as well as the product interface. Once finished close the wrapper/installer. NOTE: If you elect to not automatically run the installer after the wrapper finishes decompressing the product, make sure when you do run the installer to right click the GEX<region>.exe file and select "Run As Administrator" 4. Once the wrapper decompression is complete, Run the installer. Should you wish to change the default install path during the installation process of any region you may do so. There is no install path requirement. You can elect to use the default path, or, browse the installer to the location of your choice. Once complete, close the installer NOTE: Do not open the GEX interface until all of your GEX regions are installed. Doing so will not cause any problems however it can make the install process take longer. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above for ALL of your GEX region products. BEFORE STARTING THE INTERFACE FOR THE FIRST TIME: IMPORTANT: It can be possible very aggressive AV/Malware scanners may read the GEX interface exe a false positive when the GEX interface is opened. To completely avoid this possibility enter the settings for the AV/Malware scanners and select to EXCLUDE the directory shown below: C:\Users\,YOUR WINDOWS USER NAME>\AppData\Roaming\Flight One Software\GEX <---- this directory and all files in it ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FIRST RUN OF THE GEX INTERFACE START THE GEX INTERFACE: 1. Start the GEX interface *by right click of the GEX shortcut the installer placed on the desktop or in the START menu, select: Run As Administrator.* NOTE: IF you have BOTH FSX Box and FSX Steam Edition installed on your system the interface will display a box that will request which version of FSX support you wish to run. It doesn't matter which version you start with. Follow the prompts for first run of the product. Note that if you kept a previous backup the interface may run through the backup process but will not overwrite any file already in the backup directory and will only add new files to it. The interface will usually locate the simulator automatically through the registry. If it fails it will request a browse to the FSX install directory. 2. Once all the initial setup is complete you are ready to enable your GEX region products in FSX. Starting with the product you own highest in the list in the interface, click the bullet next to the region and then click the ENABLE button. Follow the prompt and allow the process to complete. When complete the region will display "ENABELD IN FSX" If you have a detected Ultimate Terrain X (UTX) product installed the interface will then allow access to the Ultimate Terrain feature for the region. If not the feature will be available. Repeat the step above to select and ENABLE any UTX region features under the GEX region. 3. Go to the next GEX region in the list you own and repeat step #2 above. Once all of your GEX regions and installed UTX features display 'ENABLED IN FSX" in the interface. that's it! Ground Environment X is ready in the simulator. NOTE: IF you have BOTH FSX Box and FSX Steam Edition installed on your system you will need to CLOSE the interface, open it again and select the other version of FSX and then repeat steps 2 and 3 above till the product is installed into the 2nd simulator. Remember there is no need to have the interface running after the ENABLE process is complete. The files will remain in place until you run the interface again and disable GEX which restores the backup to the sim. The GEX Manual (HELP BUTTON) will define most issues and solutions to them should any issues arise. The list above covers just about everything in the manual...or you are welcome to use this forum to request support. You can use the automated 'Check For Updates" button in the interface to periodically see if updates have been released.
