Open Day at Shoreham Airport

We'd like to thank everyone who came to the 2010 Open Day in July. The sun shined this year and with a little more room for PC set ups and slightly less people visiting than last year, there was plenty of time to chat and socialise. As many will know, Shoreham Airport had to make last minute changes this to the planned days and flying activities, which was disappointing. We're sorry if you could not make it on the Sunday. But those familiar with aviation will not be surprised at such challenges! Nonetheless all of us at Flight1 had a great day meeting people - chatting to old friends and making new ones. We hope you did too. Around a dozen people flew in a variety of aircraft from microlights to more familiar C172 and PA28s which was great to see the grreat mix of real and vitual pilots on the day. We even had families and children having a go at flight simming for the first time. The instructors from Shoreham-based commercial training organisation, Flying Time, gave talks and lessons on aspects of flying we might not consider when jumping into our virtual aircraft. Many found these a great part of the day and were able to ask questions too. On
the flight sim side, we were delighted to have the support of Alpine
Computers and RC Simulations showing off the latest hardware and
controls. Dodosim brought a great helicopter control set up and
many people came away with a greater appreciation of flying these
rotary winged beasts! VATSIM and RAFSIM again showed what's possible when flying online together, be it formation flights in Hunters or experiencing real Air Traffic Control with real controllers. The local pilot shop Transair were on hand for those with who needed some retail therapy after all of that! Our thanks go to the all those who supported us and of course for those who visited. If you couldn't make it this year we certainly hope to see you next time or at one of the other upcoming UK shows at Cosford and Duxford.
