New
Purchases - How the system works
Flight1.com's
e-commerce software "wrapper" system is designed to allow
product to be delivered to you through a secure, convenient, and easy
to use system of distribution that allows you immediate access
to the software. The system was specifically designed to give you self-manageable
access to your software, and since the system has "prepackaged"
the software on your system, you do not need to worry about downloading
your software after your purchase.
Once you
download and initially run a Flight1.com E-Commerce enabled product
you will be presented with a simple to use screen that will allow you
to purchase software through our secure and encrypted e-commerce engine.
Depending on the version of our E-Commerce Wrapper that is in use with
the EXE you have, you will be presented with either of the following
screens...
If
using the newer type wrapper (with the 3 big buttons):
Button
1. You can enter your Flight1 account information behind button
one. This would be an account you opened separately at our new
account creation page. Accounts are totally optional and are NOT
required. But if you have an account, you can reinstall without needing
software keys. See this
page for more info on Flight1 accounts.
Button
2. This is required, and it is your name, address, and contact
info.
Button
3. This is required also, and it contains the method of purchase
you will be using. In this case, you can use either of the 4 major
credit cards, or PayPal.
Once
data is correctly entered behind at least Buttons 2 and 3, the purchase
button will activate.

(This is the latest version of our E-Commerce Wrapper.)
The
classic wrapper that has the data entry in the main screen (without
the 3 big buttons)
This
is pretty straightforward. You simply enter your contact and purchase
data in the main screen. This older version does not have access to
the Flight1 account system or have the ability to use PayPal.

(This is a classic version of our E-Commerce Wrapper.)
In either
of the above screens, there are 2 main options: making a new purchase,
or reinstalling your previously purchased software. There are other
options also, such as using a digital coupon, product ReadMe information,
and more. But we will only focus on purchase and reinstall here.
The
purchase process (all versions):
Once
the credit card transaction has been validated and approved by our
secure servers (we never save complete credit card information on
our servers), the ESD system will "unwrap" the core program
and create a unique and exclusive ".key" file for you to
use for reinstalls (do not forget that if you associated your order
with an account, you do not have to use keys for reinstalls). The
ESD system also prompts you to backup a copy of the key file for safe
storage in case you need to re-extract your software again later.
You will
also be notified via e-mail of the successful transaction.
To summarize
the entire process (after you enter your information for a purchase):
- Once
your purchase is approved, a Key file is saved to a folder
on your main hard drive in the company's name. Since "Flight
One Software" uses the wrapper, you will get a C:\Flight
One Software folder (replace C:\ with your current boot drive
if Windows is on another drive). Other companies will of course
get a folder different than Flight One Software. Keys are used for
reinstall, and are not required if your order is assigned to a Flight1
account.
- You
will also get a Proof of Purchase Certificate in HTML format. This
has special information that may be required by some vendors for
you to access additional services. Never post your certificate information
in public.
- Usually
a Setup file is unpacked to the same location just listed above.
- In
some cases, a license file will be created. This .lic file contains
additional information that may be required by the software you
are purchasing, and it ties your purchase to your current machine.
Do note that this does not permanently tie your order to your machine,
just this installation. If you go through the reinstallation process,
a new license file will be generated for that machine.
- If
you need to service your order (new keys, replacement certificates,
lost orders, etc.) you can use our automatic service system at http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=wrapperservice.
How
to reinstall previously purchased software.
The ability
to reinstall is fully implemented, and in many cases just takes a few
moments. If you have your product key, or if your order is assigned
to a Flight1 account, all you will need is the correct password (along
with an Internet connection), to reinstall. In cases where you lost
all information pertaining to an order, as long as you have access to
your purchase email address, you can retrieve from our automated
system all necessary information required for your reinstall. The
goal is to allow you to feel confident with your purchase, even if you
did not back up your original purchase information or files. Even if
you do not have access to your original email address, you can contact
us and we can try to help you get up and running again.
How
to Reinstall using your Flight1 Account (new wrapper version only).
As described
above, there are two different wrapper interfaces you might use. Both
interfaces can use key files, and the process of using the key file
is similar in each. However with the newer Flight1 accounts system
you can also install using your flight one account login name and
password (if your order is assigned to your account). The option to
use a login name and password is only available with the newer wrapper
version which is the one that has the big buttons in the center of
the screen (if the EXE you downloaded has the data entry fields in
the main screen, than that version will only reinstall using your
key file).
We will
cover reinstalling with then newer "account" wrapper version
first. In the main screen (as noted above in the interface pictures),
press the button that says "Click Here to Reinstall". You
will be led to a screen that gives you 2 options... to "Reinstall
Using Your Key File", or to "Reinstall using your Flight1
Login and Password".
If you
have saved your login and password in the wrapper from a previous
purchase, your data will have been automatically entered. All you
need to do next is click Validate. If your login name and password
are not entered, you may enter it, then select the Validate button.

Reinstall
Using Your Key File (all wrapper versions)
If you
need to reinstall using your key file, simply make sure the key option
is selected. Then press the Select Key button. You can then browse
to your product key file. After the key is selected, hit the Validate
button. You will need to have the last 4 digits of your credit card
handy (this is use for verification purposes only), or alternately,
you may have a customer selected password. Once everything is ready
and the Validate button is selected, the server will login and confirm
your information, and then unpack the software.

The Reinstall
screen of the newer style wrapper.
If your
wrapper version has the data-entry boxes in the main screen, instead
of the 3 big buttons, then you will need to use your key file for
reinstallation. Your password for this version will be the last 4
digits of the card used for the original purchase. After the Select
Key button is is pressed, you will browse to your key file, enter
your password, and then the server will login and confirm your information.

screen in the classic style wrapper.

How
do I get a Flight1 account, and how do they work?
Flight1
accounts have to be created by you, and are not automatically created
when you make a purchase. Please read this
KB article for more information on accounts, or click
here to open a Flight1 account. Do note that once you create an
account, most of your new orders (and many past orders) can be assigned
to your account, making reinstall even easier.
Top
I
get an error during purchase stating that my login or password information
is incorrect.
It is possible
that you are using login data for an account that does not exist. Using
an account should only be used if you opened a separate account at Flight1.com.
Please read this KB
article for more information.

Do
I have to pay again to re-download or reinstall my software?
There are
no charges to reinstall. Also, we do not charge you if you need to redownload
the product (in all likelihood, our vendors do not charge either). This
is because our system is not designed this way. You usually just download
the main for-sale product and reinstall!

I
have Windows Vista and am having trouble running a downloaded EXE.
Windows
Vista may require special attention. Please see our Vista
Information Page for more assistance on Vista issues. Also see this
answer.

How
do I reactivate my order if I used my key too many times or entered multiple
invalid passwords?
If you
are getting messages that require you to reactivate your order, you
can reactivate the order yourself via our order
reactivation page. Orders will require reactivation after multiple
reinstalls, or if you entered invalid password data too many times.

I
get a MSVBVM60.DLL error message when I run a downloaded EXE
MSVBVM60.DLL
is a system file that is included with Windows XP and Vista. Some uninstallers
may mistakenly delete this file from your system. If it is missing,
you can run this installer.
It will restore the file back on your system.

I
can't start my downloaded application (it never runs), so I can't purchase
the software.
You need
to make sure Data Execution Protection (DEP) allows the EXE to run.
You can check your DEP settings by right-clicking My Computer, select
Properties/Advanced/Settings/Data Execution Protection. You can select
the "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"
option (see
image), or try to add the EXE you downloaded to the exception list.
Also, you
may need to disable any virus scanner that may be running, and that
you have full Administrator access to the computer.
Top
I
get a DLL or other file error message, or my virus scanner gives me a
warning.
Unfortunately,
one of the most common issues when people can't get software to run
is interference from a Virus or Spyware scanner. Although they do good
things, in many cases they can interrupt programs you may want to run.
If you get an error message that does not appear to be from the downloaded
EXE, you need to make sure your virus or spyware scanner is disabled
prior to running the EXE. If you are concerned about this, you can scan
the file prior to running it, and then after your purchase, if you are
prompted to automatically run the setup application, select No, then
manually scan the setup application. This is usually extracted right
after your purchase is made.
False-Positive
reports with software is common. If you have special concerns, please
submit a customer service
ticket and we will try to help.

I
can't connect to the server, I get errors after connecting to the Internet,
or get Invalid Key errors.
Software
firewalls are the most problem when users get Internet connection error
messages (in some cases this could cause invalid key errors also). In
our opinion, Windows XP firewall in SP2 and Vista is entirely capable,
and is fully compatible with our software. However, a very small percentage
of users have installed 3rd party software firewalls. If these are not
properly configured it may make it so you can't connect to our servers
when you want to purchase or reinstall. If you are running a non-default
firewall, make sure it is fully configured to allow the Flight1 wrapper
application you downloaded the ability to communicate on the Internet.
If you have tried to reconfigure your firewall and it still does not
work, then try to disable that firewall altogether and reboot. In worst
case scenarios, poorly designed firewall software programs may have
to be fully removed from your system, and in some extreme cases, you
may have to do a system restore from a previous restore point in order
to get your machine to operate properly.
In other
cases, there may simply be problems on the Internet between your computer
and our server, especially if you are a great distance from the Eastern
USA. Please try again after a short period as the problem may clear
up on its own.
If you
do get Invalid Key errors, and you are certain that your Internet is
OK, then double check to make sure your key is not corrupted, or that
the key you are selecting is indeed the key for the product you are
reinstalling. Actual invalid keys usually have instant errors, where
firewall or connection errors may come after a brief delay.

I
get an error during the software unpacking process. I am told to report
a certain error number.
There could
be a few reasons for this error.
1. Make
sure you have enough disk space on your Hard Drive. If your drive availability
is down to a just a few gigabytes or less, you may not have enough space
to install new software. If you believe your disk space is low, try
to free up additional space or install to an alternate hard drive should
you have one.
2. If you
are changing the default location where the wrapper unpacks your software,
make sure this folder already exists, and that it is fully writeable
by your system. Make sure no existing files in the folder are marked
as Read Only (right click them, select Properties, and uncheck the Read
Only box).
3. Make
sure you are not unpacking to a hidden folder. Sometimes folders may
become hidden, with files set to Read Only. All folder view options
can be set in My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View. There, you can
change your settings to see if any folders have become hidden.
4. Verify
that you have full Administrator access to your system. Right-click
the wrapper application and select Run as Administrator.
Top
My
purchase went through OK but nothing happened afterwards. Where is the
software?
The wrapper
creates a key file in the company's name who's software is enclosed
in the wrapper. For example, if "ABC Software" distributed
a title, look in the C:\ABC Software folder. Check this folder for either
a KEY file, or and EXE file. If you see an EXE file, run this EXE file
as this is usually the main file that was extracted from the Wrapper
when the software was purchased. If you only see a KEY file, press the
Reinstall button in the main screen of the Wrapped main EXE you downloaded,
and follow the instructions.
Top
I
still do the above, but nothing happens or I get an error.
Again,
make sure no virus scanners, software firewalls, or other disk utilities
are running and causing interference. If you have verified that all
the above, please submit a request for assistance in our support forums
or ticket system.
Top
I
can't find my key file!
Please
go to the wrapper
service section and make a request for a new key there. If you need
more assistance, please submit a service
request ticket.
Top
I
have ordered the software more than once. What should I do?
If you
get a confirmation mail for your order, then this may mean that your
sale went through, but the connection somewhere across the Internet
was broken. Never place multiple orders. If you get a confirmation mail,
and none of the solutions above helps, please contact Flight1.com Customer
Service.
Top
I
have reinstalled a few times, and I am now receiving Key Reactivation
warnings.
Simply
reactivate your key at https://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=kman.
Top
How
do I get a refund within 30 days of my purchase?
Flight1
does have a 30 day return policy. Please read our Terms
of Service page for more information regarding refunds. All refunds
are processed through our ticket
system. Submit a request there.
Top
Where
else can I go for support and information?
Please
go to www.simforums.com. That
is Flight1's official support forum. There are many there who may be
able to help, including Flight1 staff, Flight1 Certified Professionals,
or other experienced customers that are willing to help. We also have
a common
questions forum there that you may want to check out. For other
issues that can't be helped easily at the above locations, please submit
