Problems running a Flight1 Configuration Manager or Text-o-Matic.
Article ID: 9
Revised: 12/29/2008

Summary:

You get "Runtime Error 429", "Runtime Error 339", "Invalid License" messages, or other problems running a Flight1 Configuration Manager or Textomatic.

Information:

There are several reasons for this error. Most commonly, this error is usually because of a spyware scanner, or virus scanner removing the SmartSubclass.dll. It could also be from installing a classic title that was released before Vista, and you have a certain system file missing, or it could be from another missing or corrupted DLL on your system.

There are a few options you can try...

  1. If you are having a problem with Text-o-Matic, get the latest version from www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=texto. This version does not rely on SmartSubclass.dll.

  2. If your problem is with another application such as a Configuration Manager (this actually applies to Text-o-Matic also), then download the following DLL (link below) and extract it to your Windows\System32 folder. Then execute this command in your Start/Run menu... or at a command prompt.

    regsvr32 SmartSubClass.dll

    Here is the download: http://www.flight1software.com/files/SmartSubClass.zip.

You need to make sure your spyware or virus scanner somehow EXCLUDES this file from its scan's.

If the above does not work, you need to make sure your virus or spyware scanner is FULLY DISABLED, and then reinstall your product or Text-o-Matic. If it then works and breaks later, you need to prevent your virus or spyware scanner from damaging the system files or components on your computer by checking the logs and seeing what files are being removed, then add them back, and making sure they are EXCLUDED from future scans.

  3. If you have an older Flight1 product that may have been released before Vista, you can try to download and run this small update and the configuration managers should start without an error. Vista did not ship with the same system files that XP shipped with.

  4. If your error comes after trying to press a certain button that would normally allow you to browse for a file, you may have a corrupted or missing comdlg32.ocx file.

Unzip this file into Windows\System32. Make sure any virus scanner is completely disabled first. Make totally sure the version in this zip is installed into the system32 folder. The version here is 6.1.97.82.

Then enter regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx in your Start/Run menu.

As with all our products, if you are using Windows Vista or later, please check www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=vista. There are some note there that may also apply.
