AirWrench for Microsoft Flight Simulator

AirWrench is a user-friendly software tool for creating flight dynamics for Microsoft Flight Simulator. AirWrench is not a machine code oriented editor designed to modify one AIR file coefficient at a time. It uses the physical dimensions and performance specifications of the actual aircraft to generate all of the AIR file coefficients at once to create a realistic flight model from the ground up.

The code and logic in AirWrench are derived from the same real world aerodynamics principles and equations that Microsoft Flight Simulator uses. This allows it to calculate aerodynamic coefficients based on the real aircraft's physical characteristics and performance to create realistic flight models for CFS2, CFS3, FS2002, FS2004, FSX, or P3D.

Each aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator is represented by a set of files that define the flight dynamics, sounds, panel layout, 3D geometry and paint design for the aircraft. The flight dynamics for each aircraft are defined in two separate files: a machine-readable binary AIR file containing aerodynamic coefficients, and a text-based aircraft configuration file. AirWrench operates on these two separate files in parallel to create one consistent flight model.

Each version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, from CFS2 to P3D, reads different records in the flight model files to get the parameters it needs to run. AirWrench is able to support all of these simulator versions by compiling a set of flight dynamics files that ensures that all of the parameters, whether located in the AIR file or the aircraft.cfg file, are consistent with one another.
